Manuscript And Library

For some people museums are synonymous with inanimate objects that are not touched. Cold and stiff. Does not provide value and information. The available information also seems fragmentary, outdated or even very ordinary.

Some groups want specific information about certain objects and certain information, such as students, researchers or observers. They need different information from what is conveyed in the showroom. More specific and deep.

Therefore, the Yogyakarta Sonobudoyo Museum provides space and facilities to obtain this information through the Sonobudoyo Museum library. There are many references to written works, both in the form of printed text and manuscripts.

The library contains magazines, newspapers, books, reports, and various other manuscripts. Manuscripts such as the Babad Tanah Jawa, Babad Diponegoro, are also available in the library. Some of the manuscripts are even in the form of palm leaves.

Printed manuscripts and manuscripts in the library cannot be borrowed or taken home. Manuscripts can only be read on the spot and used as they should. The manuscripts have been digitized so there is no need to borrow physical books. On the 2nd floor of the library room, digital forms of each manuscript are displayed on the computer, making it easier to search and read manuscripts.

Cameras and electronic devices capable of scanning are expected not to be used. Because the library will provide these facilities. Meanwhile, if you want to get a copy of the manuscript, you can contact the officer.

Due to limited access, to enter the library, you must obtain permission and provide personal and necessary information at the front security post. Give true information and explain the need or importance of coming to the library. If you've never been here or you never know, you can ask the security guard who will be ready to help.

The visiting hours for the library are from Monday to Thursday at 7.30 am- 4 pm, Friday at 8 am - 2.30 pm. While Saturday, Sunday and national holidays are closed.

Currently the Sonobudoyo Museum Public Library is located in the former KONI Building (Jalan Pangurakan No. 4 Yogyakarta). Meanwhile, the Manuscript Library of the Sonobudoyo Museum is located at the Sonobudoyo Museum Unit II (Ndalem Condrokiranan).
